Thanks for the previous post. I'm going to move it into the Goderich thread.

I have no idea, but some meteorologists and chasers were laughing at Reed for his lake effect comment. No follow up, though.

I don't believe it was lake effect. The cell formed OVER the lake. Lake effect is usually moisture that picks up over the lake, passes over the land and heats up causing it to rise and condense. But this storm was already mature before even reaching land.

Yeah, and that supercell was tornado warned in northern Lower Michigan well before it reached the lake.

I was looking at radar loops just after the tornado hit that went back to when the storm was in Michigan and it appears that the tornado warned storm in Michigan died out/transfered its energy to a storm about 5km or so to the south of it, over the lake which then became the supercell that would produce the Goderich tornado. Definitely not a lake effect tornado

Looking at archived Gaylord radar http://www.wunderground.com/radar/radblast.asp?ID=APX A lot of convection breaks out over NOMI...but I can't quite see which storm became the Goderich tornado. Looking here at archived Detroit radar http://www.wunderground.com/radar/radblast.asp?ID=DTX Still can't tell whats going on it all moves so fast. But it looks like that supercell came off Alcona or Iosco counties in NEMI borderline EMI. Wish you could pause this radar I'll have to look for other data. What's that NOAA site again where you download radar data and play in the media download?
