Historical records on storms?

I'm wondering if there's anywhere you can get info (old SPC outlooks, EC severe weather warnings, forecasts, etc.) on past thunderstorms. I've been trying to find out more specific info about a few severe thunderstorms from Winnipeg that I can remember, especially two that struck the city on the night of July 17th, 2005, about 30 minutes apart. That *may* have been the worst storm I can remember (not sure whether they're as severe in southern Manitoba as they are here, but for us it was pretty bad). Both storms hit Winnipeg like a bull's eye and hammered the city for hours. It was good scary fun, and I remember it being described as the worst storm in decades for the city, but there were a couple in 2007 that I remember being almost as bad. I wouldn't mind being able to compare. Plus it'd be lots of fun to research some of Southern Ontario's most powerful storms of the past.

Anyway, long and the short of it is that I'm looking for more specific info, particularly EC records. Not sure they're available on the Internet anymore though, as it is 5 years ago.

EDIT: I did briefly check the SPC and EC sites but couldn't find anything useful. Thought I'd just check here in case I was missing or overlooking something, since you're quite a knowledgeable bunch.

Go to the bottom of the page to 'Retrieve Previous Outlooks'.

To obtain info from EC, you'll have to email them. I've bought booklets from EC on previous weather events in Canada. Go to the main page and select 'contact us' at the top bar.

Thanks Derecho. I'm not sure how I missed it before, but EC has hour-by-hour weather observations taken at the Winnipeg airport going back all the way to 1953. I admit I've already spent a good deal of time going through the years, and I've started keeping a record of when thunderstorms occurred. Though I can't tell when they were severe or not, I can make assumptions based on their longevity and whether or not they were accompanied by heavy rains or hail; a google search for the date will sometimes bring up a news story if the storm was damaging enough. July 16th, 2005 (not the 17th - my mistake), is so far the only one described as a "heavy thunderstorm," though it's clear that "heavy" is not synonymous with "severe" here, since many of those simply labelled as "thunderstorms" were also severe. So far *this* year, the big weather events in Winnipeg seem to be May 28 and May 29; hours and hours of storm activity between them that brought very heavy rains.

Unfortunately, the records for Kitchener-Waterloo are piss-poor. They haven't been updated since early April of this year, they only go back to 2001 or 2002, and they only record whether or not there was rain (whether attached to a storm or not is never noted). I guess it's only the international airports that keep such detailed records; thus Toronto, of course, *does* have very detailed records, which perhaps I can look through in lieu of KW. Currently the server's down (due to my overuse?) but I'll be looking through these more in the future.
