Major Ice Storm
Just thought I'd make a thread for the threatening ice storm affecting Southern Ontario. As the night progresses, the event will grow very serious with strong winds easily snapping trees/limbs with significant amounts of ice accumulated on them. Widespread power outages are likely.

Here in Thorold we have a temperature of 1.5C but 10 metres above the ground the trees are coated with ice 3- 4 mm and have icicles hanging from the branches. Must be the warmth of the ground keeping the freezing temperatures fom reaching the surface.

It just dropped below 0 a few hours ago here in St. Kitts. Probably not enough to freeze any ground water on the roads though (hope hope, or it's going to be a slippery drive in to work tomorrow).

I wonder if this will be as strong as the storm in January 2007. No idea how that one affected places outside Niagara, but I remember massive tree limbs on roads everywhere. Looked like an tornado made of ice went through!
Right now, there is a clear coating of ice about 2mm thick on every tree in the area. We had a few hours of ice pellets this afternoon. Last edited by Stormydude; 04-11-2013 at 08:56 PM.

I doubt we'll get anything freezing here today with these temps
  (too bad about the tstorm possibility for today being dropped though  )
