Just picked up one of these, a GoPro Hero2 and what they call an industrial strength suction cup mount for it.
Anyone making use of these little cameras for storm images? If so how are the results? I bought it mostly for kayaking and cycling but is is waterproof down to 60 meters so it "should" handle bad weather better than my normal camcorder or dslr. |

Hey WrongWay. I use the Gopro hero 2 and love it. The quality is great....and the durability, well we all know that haha. I was very surprised to see the quality of video that came from the device. It has a very good dynamic range and doesnt over expose at all.
Just thought i'd also add this. I bought a cheap 1 dollar mic of ebay(fake sony mic) that has surprisingly good sound quality...better than the stock internal mic without the case. Anyway, I drilled a hole in the case and added the mic and sealed the hole off again so water cant enter. Works great. I made a custom roof rack mount that also works great as well. Interesting thanks!
I bought their suction cup that GoPro claims can hang on to a plane in flight (not about to try that) and a bar mount. Hoping it will hold on, in and out of the jeep. Was wondering about the sound a bit muted inside the case, but I have been trying to use a portable Boss MicroBR recorder for sound then mixing it all back together in Adobe Premier Elements. Unfortunately not a drop of rain or wind to try it out since I got the new stuff. |

Sound Quality is great on those things! I made a leash out of a small carabiner and parachute cord for both my suction cup, handlebar mount and helmet mount! I use mine primarily for whitewater kayaking and it does its job very well! I usually film and do freeze frames when I want a pic..Sure, a bit of quality gets lost but I dont mind! Here are a few samples!

Great images thanks for that!
I've only tried kayaking once with it and managed to hit it somehow. So all the views are pointed up, lot of sky no water. Be August before I get to hit the water again, with any luck get a few storms to try it out on before then. |

Wow, 300 bucks! Not bad at all. DEFINITELY have to look in to it for next summer when the entire family goes to the cottage each year. The kids would LOVE to have that thing in the water with them.
