Default It was snowing the sun was out and no clouds!!

I was ice fishing near Bancroft on the weekend. The temperature was around -15C, the wind was from the north about 10k, it was around 1100hrs, there were a few light clouds way off in the distance and it was snowing. It wasn’t snow picked up by the wind. It snowed on and off for a few hours. Any idea on what causes this or what it is called?
