Seems as though flooding will be a very real possibility in some areas. Storm rain already up to 3.5 inches (89mm) in some parts Southern Ontario, saturating the ground for when Sandy's rains arrive:

850 mb is 1,500 metres, or 1.5 km, above the surface. Current GFS output for 66 hrs has anywhere from 30-50kts at 925mb, which is 762 metres(or 3/4km up), and from about 10 kts to 40kts over southern Ontario at surface level winds.

The first flood watch has been posted for the Lake Simcoe Conservation Region, with flood statements now for Halton Region and Toronto.

Correct. Those will not be sustained at the surface but I find the 850mb winds are useful for predicting wind gusts if those winds can mix down. And those 70knot 850mb winds over us seem to correllate well with what MNR is predicting in the above statement for gusts (45-85knots) so I would certainly expect to see that verify at this point.

EC says 50-70 with gusts to 100, maybe a couple over so thats about 40-55knots.

Indeed you are correct, I should have said MNR not EC.
