Strong to severe thunderstorms affected parts of Central and Eastern
Ontario Friday, July 1. Canada Day festivities were affected in many
areas due to storm damage and power outages. Several reports of
damage were reported from the Sunderland area extending
northeastward towards Buckhorn Lake, including Lindsay. Environment
Canada sent a damage survey team to the area Sunday, July 3 to
investigate.

Video evidence has confirmed Ontario's second tornado of the year
over Buckhorn Lake with no significant damage associated. It has
been rated as an EF0 tornado.

The Investigation managed to analyze several other areas and
received many eyewitness accounts. For the area from Sunderland to
Lindsay several downed tree branches ranging in size were found.
Damage was also reported at the Canadian Tire in Lindsay. Damage
found in the area from Sunderland to just east of Lindsay was
indicative of straight line wind damage. Wind speeds were estimated
as ranging from 70 km/h to 85 km/h with isolated wind gusts at or
slightly higher than 90 km/h.

Conditions prompted Environment Canada to issue numerous Severe
Thunderstorm Warnings as well as several Weather Advisories for
funnel clouds during Friday afternoon and early evening.

Environment Canada encourages anyone with further information
including pictures and videos to send them to [email address]
or to tweet reports to #onstorm.

Please note that this summary may contain preliminary or unofficial
information and does not constitute a complete or final report.
