Well, at least it has given me an opportunity to check my emergency supplies. wind is starting to pick up here. I can't believe that EC is predicting 5-7 metre waves for southern Lake Huron. That would be interesting to see.
I wouldn't be suprised if the power does go out tonight. Stay safe! ![]()

Fatality in Toronto
![]() A Toronto pedestrian struck by a flying sign appears to be the first fatality of Hurricane Sandy to occur on Canadian soil. Just after sunset on Monday evening, a woman walking near a Staples Business Depot in west Toronto was struck by a sign blown free by high winds and later pronounced dead at the scene, Toronto Police confirmed. A photo from the parking lot acquired by Global News at 8 p.m. indicated that the backlit Staples sign itself had come loose from its mount at the entrance to the store’s parking lot, plummeting roughly 10 metres to the ground and coming to rest across the street. Just before 7 p.m., winds in the Toronto area were clocked as high as 65 km per hour — and are expected to peak at 100 km/h near midnight. I live in Oshawa, and right now the winds are unlike anything I've seen. It was breezy for the last 5 or so hours but within the last hour it's really picked up. It's howling and it's very loud. Trees are bending out of shape and I don't doubt some will be uprooted in my area

The station I listen to on the radio in the factory (610AM CKTB) ditched all their regular programming and just did storm coverage all night. It was a nice change. But the storm itself wasn't bad. Sure it was gusty and rainy, but we've had way worse, many times. Our annual November 'wind day' is usually much worse than what we had today.
Driving home from work after midnight I saw 1 tree down that took out a No Parking sign, and some branches, but nothing major. Of course, the leaves on the trees are more likely to blow off than cling on and pulls the tree down with it. I imagine there'll be a lot of leaves on the ground come morning. But from the [non] damage so far, I would not call this a major storm. Very large storm yes, but not severe.
