Apparently there was a severe thunderstorm warning issued that I just found out about:

Code:
326
 WUCN11 CWTO 232351
 SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING
 ISSUED BY ENVIRONMENT CANADA
AT 7:51 PM EDT TUESDAY 23 JULY 2013.
 ---------------------------------------------------------------------
 SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR:
=NEW= ST. CATHARINES - GRIMSBY - NORTHERN NIAGARA REGION
=NEW= NIAGARA FALLS - WELLAND - SOUTHERN NIAGARA REGION.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
 ==DISCUSSION==
UPDATED OR ENDED BY 8:40 PM EDT.

AT 7:40 PM, METEOROLOGISTS ARE TRACKING A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM
CAPABLE OF PRODUCING HAIL, STRONG WINDS AND LOCALLY HEAVY DOWNPOURS.

COMMUNITIES IN THE PATH INCLUDE: NIAGARA FALLS, FORT ERIE.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ONTARIO RECOMMENDS THAT YOU TAKE COVER
 IMMEDIATELY, IF THREATENING WEATHER APPROACHES.

STRONG WIND GUSTS AND HAIL CAN DAMAGE PROPERTY AND CAUSE INJURIES.
LOCAL DOWNPOURS CAN CAUSE FLASH FLOODS.

GO INDOORS AND MOVE AWAY FROM WINDOWS AND SKYLIGHTS. AVOID AREAS OF
THE BUILDING THAT COULD BE AFFECTED BY FALLING DEBRIS SUCH AS TREE
LIMBS. STAY ON THE LOWER FLOOR OF YOUR HOME OR BUILDING AND IF THE
STORM IS PARTICULARLY SEVERE GO TO THE BASEMENT.

AVOID DRIVING THROUGH WATER ON ROADS. EVEN SHALLOW FAST MOVING WATER
ACROSS A ROAD CAN SWEEP A VEHICLE AWAY.

IN CANADA, LIGHTNING KILLS UP TO 10 PEOPLE EVERY YEAR. REMEMBER,
 WHEN THUNDER ROARS, GO INDOORS.

FOR MORE INFORMATION:

 .

ENVIRONMENT CANADA CONTINUES TO MONITOR THE SITUATION CLOSELY. STAY
TUNED TO YOUR LOCAL MEDIA OR WEATHERADIO FOR FURTHER UPDATES. IF YOU
WOULD LIKE TO REPORT SEVERE WEATHER, YOU CAN SEND AN EMAIL TO
 STORM.ONTARIO(AT)EC.GC.CA.

END/SPC

Hey Darksky it was a nice storm started here with some pea sized hail mixed with giant rain drops then turned into a deluge with 40mph winds from the north.
One sidebar to the EC storm warning, it was posted at 7:51pm you posted at 7:33pm and said the storm had been going for a half and hour. By 7:51pm the main part had passed and the rain had stopped here. maybe not in niagara falls and fort erie.

That is the issue with region(sub-region) based warnings, EC now adds communities impact into some of their warnings as you can see above, a good addition, but far from a fix to the issue. Although, having Niagara Falls and Fort Erie in the communities kind of contradicts their warning regions added in that warning, as both are in Southern Niagara Region, so the warning for Northern Niagara Region was basically a waste.
