Default Aug. 15, 2010 - SW ON chase log

Logged another 800 k. Started northbound from Bradford but changed my mind to head south after spc introduced the hail threat to the extreme sw midday. Went through mono centre if anyones been there it's a tiny little picturesque little village on the niagara escarpment between highway 9 and 89 then headed south to hwy 9 then west and took the scenic route down to chattham for the severe storm although had we gone the direct route would have been on time to set up and wait in the best location. Anyways caught up to the storm thanks to the 90km/hr speed limits and the fact it's all flat and long staight backroads of fields down in chatham Kent. U can really make time down there I thought we were screwed especially after having to stop in chatham for gas as the storm was on the south shore of lake st Clair heading for lake Erie. Caught up with the storm before where hwy 2 meets the 401 and drove through the south eastern rain core and waited for the nw one on the back of the storm to hit us. Here is catching the storm westbound on hwy 2 around 430 or 5 pm

After that barrage of rain sheets and about 90k wind gusts I
Followed the back
Of the storm across the 401 and caught a couple rainbow pics this one with the back side of the storm in view with some towers going up in the distance

As we got back on the 401
There were towers going up in the london to Kitchener area to the northeast. As it would turn out the line of storms these were part of ended up hitting us on hwy 400 at Vaughn mills road a couple hours later. We caught and passed this whole line and ended up with a bonus storm

Thanks the Vaughn storms weren't as strong as the Chatham storms but the lightning was amplified by it being almost night. Definetely was a better light show but not as gusty as down south.
