       ALGONQUIN
       BURK'S FALLS - BAYFIELD INLET.

A WINTER STORM WILL BRING RAIN AND SNOW TO SOUTHERN ONTARIO BEGINNING
 THURSDAY AND CONTINUING INTO FRIDAY.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
 ==DISCUSSION==
A WEATHER SYSTEM TRACKING TOWARD SOUTHERN ONTARIO WILL BRING A MIX OF
PRECIPITATION TYPES BEGINNING THURSDAY AND CONTINUING INTO FRIDAY.

SOUTH AND WEST OF A LINE ROUGHLY FROM THE MUSKOKA AREA TO BROCKVILLE:
PRECIPITATION IS FORECAST TO BEGIN DURING THE DAY ON THURSDAY. MOSTLY
RAIN IS EXPECTED, ALTHOUGH IT MAY START BRIEFLY AS A BIT OF FREEZING
RAIN OR SNOW. THE RAIN WILL ALSO LIKELY CHANGE BACK OR BECOME MIXED
WITH SNOW ON FRIDAY, HOWEVER SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS ARE
NOT EXPECTED. THE EXCEPTIONS MAY BE THE TRADITIONAL SNOW BELT AREAS
TO THE SOUTHEAST OF LAKE HURON AND GEORGIAN BAY, WHERE HEAVIER SNOW
AND POSSIBLY SNOW SQUALLS COULD DEVELOP FRIDAY NIGHT.

TO THE NORTH AND EAST OF THE MUSKOKA TO BROCKVILLE BOUNDARY:
PRECIPITATION IS FORECAST TO BEGIN THURSDAY AFTERNOON OR EVENING.
MOSTLY SNOW IS EXPECTED, ALTHOUGH IT COULD BE MIXED WITH RAIN OR
BRIEF FREEZING RAIN NEAR THE BOUNDARY. TOTAL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS ARE
UNCERTAIN AT THIS TIME, BUT IT IS LIKELY THAT SOME AREAS WILL REACH
OR EXCEED SNOWFALL WARNING CRITERIA (15 CM WITHIN 12 HOURS) BY THE
END OF THE DAY FRIDAY. SNOWFALL WARNINGS MAY BE ISSUED BY EARLY
THURSDAY MORNING, AS THE EVENT DRAWS NEARER AND CONFIDENCE INCREASES.

WINDY AND COLDER CONDITIONS ARE FORECAST FOR ALL REGIONS ON SATURDAY.
DRIVING CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO DETERIORATE BEGINNING THURSDAY
ESPECIALLY OVER NORTHERN SECTIONS WHERE MORE SNOW IS EXPECTED.
MOTORISTS SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR HAZARDOUS WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS
DUE TO LOW VISIBILITY AND ACCUMULATING SNOW ON UNTREATED ROADS.

THE PUBLIC IS ADVISED TO MONITOR FUTURE FORECASTS AND WARNINGS AS
WARNINGS MAY BE REQUIRED OR EXTENDED.

END/OSPC

Default Re: Dec.20/21 snow storm?

Code:
1. TODAY..TONIGHT AND FRIDAY..WINTER STORM AND SNOWFALL WARNINGS
HOISTED FOR THE SOO EAST ACROSS THE NICKEL BELT TO THE OTTAWA VALLEY
AND CORNWALL FOR 15-25 CM OF SNOW, WITH 30 CM NOT OUT OF THE
QUESTION FOR THE OTTAWA AREA, AS WELL AS THE SOO. COLORADO LOW
SHOULD REACH SOUTHERN ONTARIO TONIGHT THEN MOVE DUE EAST INTO NEW
YORK STATE FRIDAY. THIS PRESENTS A RAIN VERSUS SNOW PHASE ISSUE
PROBLEM FOR MANY SRN ONT AREAS INCLUDING TORONTO, AND WHILE WE ARE
GOING WITH MAINLY RAIN FOR TONIGHT BEFORE AN EVENTUAL CHANGEOVER TO
WET SNOW UNDER THE HANGBACK FRIDAY GIVING SOME 2 CM OF SO, IF IT
WINDS UP TO BE ANY COLDER AS PER NAM/GFS FORECAST SOUNDING
SOLUTIONS, A 5 CM ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL ISN'T OUT OF THE QUESTION
FOR TONIGHT INTO FRIDAY BEFORE THE LOW PASSES BY. WE WILL ALSO BE
WATCHING PROGRESS OF A COASTAL LOW THAT WILL TRACK TOWARDS SERN
QUEBEC FRIDAY. THIS ONE HAS POTENTIAL TO KEEP HEAVY SNOW GOING IN
THE RENFREW..OTTAWA AND CORNWALL AREAS INTO FRIDAY NIGHT, AND IF SO,
WE MAY BE LOOKING AT A FEW AREAS GETTING A SOLID 30 CM SNOWFALL
TOTAL. NWRN AND FAR NRN ONTARIO ARE ON THE SIDELINES WITH SCATTERED
FLURRIES AND ASSOCIATED CHANCE POPS AT MOST.

2. IN THE LONGER RANGE, HAVE ADDED SNOWSQUALLS TO THE FORECAST FOR
SRN ONTARIO SNOWBELTS FOR SATURDAY. FORECAST SOUNDINGS CONTINUE TO
SUGGEST LAKE EFFECT CLOUD TEMPS IN THE MINUS 10 TO MINUS 13 C RANGE
AT LEAST INTO SATURDAY MORNING..JUST INTO THE DENDRITIC SNOW GROWTH
AREA. THE INVERSION AT THE CLOUD TOP IS FORECAST TO LOWER A BIT ON
SATURDAY AFTERNOON, BUT GIVEN THE STRONG NWLY WINDS, EVEN MARGINAL
SNOWSQUALLS WILL LIKELY HAVE QUITE AN IMPACT ON TRANSPORTATION
THERE. SO HAVE MENTIONED SNOWSQUALLS AS WELL AS LOCAL BLOWING SNOW
TO GET THE MESSAGE OUT EARLY IN THIS POTENTIAL HIGH IMPACT EARLY
SEASON EVENT. THEREAFTER THE WEATHER SCENARIO BECOMES MUCH QUIETER
OVER SRN ONTARIO, AND WITH TEMPERATURES FORECAST TO REMAIN NEAR OR
BELOW FREEZING INTO CHRISTMAS, MOST SNOW THAT DOES FALL SHOULD
REMAIN ON THE GROUND. SOME GUIDANCE HINTS AT POSSIBILITY OF A SMALL
GENERAL SNOWFALL SRN ONT CHRISTMAS EVE, JUST IN TIME FOR SANTA!
LONGER RANGE CHARTS SUGGEST POTENTIAL FOR A WINTER STORM FOR SRN/ERN
ONTARIO LATER IN THE WEEK..BUT AGREEMENT IS NOT GOOD YET, SO STAY
 TUNED.

3. HAVE A GREAT DAY, EH?

END/KUHNY/OSPC

TO THE NORTH AND EAST OF THE MIDLAND TO KINGSTON BOUNDARY:
PRECIPITATION IS FORECAST TO BEGIN THIS EVENING. MOSTLY SNOW IS
EXPECTED, ALTHOUGH IT COULD BE MIXED WITH RAIN NEAR THE BOUNDARY.
TOTAL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS WILL RANGE FROM THE 10 CM TO CLOSE TO 15 CM
 RANGE BY FRIDAY EVENING.
