Are they kidding me!!?? There was some cloud buildup in the middle of lake ontario, nothing even showing on radar near the shore, not moving to the shore (moving east), and all we had was rain.
I JUST FOUND OUT I WAS UNDER A FREEKING STORM WARNING TODAY! Do these people have ANY idea of the local conditions before a warning is issued!? I do apologize as I know I sound like a broken record about this. But enough is enough already. Why not just release a warning at 6am, EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR, end it at 5:59:59am the next day, and that will cover their butts for the year. Nobody will be able to say they didn't know about impending danger, because then EC can say "well, there was a warning issued for it" Code:
062 WUCN11 CWTO 172018 SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING UPDATED BY ENVIRONMENT CANADA AT 4:18 PM EDT SATURDAY 17 JULY 2010. --------------------------------------------------------------------- SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR: =NEW= DUNNVILLE - CALEDONIA - HALDIMAND =NEW= ST. CATHARINES - GRIMSBY - NORTHERN NIAGARA REGION LONDON - PARKHILL - EASTERN MIDDLESEX COUNTY BRANTFORD - COUNTY OF BRANT CITY OF HAMILTON. SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING ENDED FOR: WOODSTOCK - TILLSONBURG - OXFORD COUNTY. --------------------------------------------------------------------- ==DISCUSSION== WEATHER RADAR AT 4:00 PM INDICATED A CLUSTER OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM JUST WEST OF HAMILTON TO BRANTFORD. MOTION IS SOUTHEAST AT AROUND 40 KM/H. IT WILL AFFECT COMMUNITIES FROM SMITHVILLE TO HAGERSVILLE BY 5 PM. TORRENTIAL RAIN IS THE MAIN THREAT AS THE STORMS PERSIST IN THE SAME LOCALES. RAINFALL AMOUNTS IN EXCESS OF 50 MM IN AN HOUR ARE LIKELY. BRIEF WIND GUSTS TO 90 KM/H AND LARGE HAIL TO 2 CENTIMETRES ARE ALSO LIKELY. OTHER STORMS CONTINUE TO AFFECT NORTHWEST PORTIONS OF LONDON - PARKHILL - EASTERN MIDDLESEX COUNTY. THIS IS A WARNING THAT SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE IMMINENT OR OCCURRING IN THESE REGIONS. REMEMBER SOME SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCE TORNADOES..LISTEN FOR UPDATED WARNINGS. EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ONTARIO RECOMMENDS TAKING COVER IMMEDIATELY WHEN THREATENING WEATHER APPROACHES. NOTE..A SUMMARY OF ALL WARNINGS AND WATCHES FOR SOUTHERN ONTARIO IS AVAILABLE IN THE WWCN11 CWTO BULLETIN ISSUED IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THIS BULLETIN. END/1/OSPC --OFF RANT--

Warnings are supposed to be reserved for IMMINENT danger - as in GOING TO HAPPEN. I just brush off all the warnings now anyway. They don't mean we're going to get anything big anymore. All they seem to mean now is that there's the possibility of something (which is what a WATCH was supposed to be for). It's very frustrating.

EDIT: It should also be mentioned a supercell developed over Lake Huron and passed over southern Huron County. At several points during this period it was rotating, and had a very intense hailcore. EC didn't issue a warning on it until the storm was near Stratford, and now people are calling into TWN from Hensall in southern Huron county reporting some pretty significant damage to trees and power lines. D'oh! Reminds me of the latest Essex County tornado... radar indicated strong rotation, and by the time it was near Leamington EC issued a tornado warning, after a tornado touched down in Amherstburg. I saved several radar scans incase one developed and people were injured or killed with no warning.
After the storm has exited Waterloo Region Code:
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING ISSUED BY ENVIRONMENT CANADA AT 4:23 PM EDT WEDNESDAY 28 JULY 2010. --------------------------------------------------------------------- SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR: =NEW= CITY OF HAMILTON =NEW= KITCHENER - CAMBRIDGE - REGION OF WATERLOO
