May 29 tornado summary from EC :

Code:
AWCN11 CWTO 302104
UPDATED WEATHER SUMMARY FOR ALL OF SOUTHERN ONTARIO AND THE
NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION ISSUED BY ENVIRONMENT CANADA
AT 4:48 PM EDT WEDNESDAY 30 MAY 2012.

-------------------------------------------------------------
 ==WEATHER EVENT DISCUSSION==

SECOND TORNADO OF THE SEASON IN ONTARIO ON TUESDAY.

A SERIES OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS MOVED THROUGH EASTERN ONTARIO ON
TUESDAY AFTERNOON. ENVIRONMENT CANADA RECEIVED A NUMBER OF REPORTS OF
POWER OUTAGES, TREE DAMAGE AND SOME STRUCTURAL DAMAGE FROM THESE
STORMS. AFTER COMPLETING A NUMBER OF STORM SURVEYS, THE SECOND
TORNADO OF THE SEASON HAS BEEN ADDED TO OUR 2012 TALLY. BETWEEN 4:00
AND 4:15 PM TUESDAY AFTERNOON A FUJITA SCALE ZERO TORNADO (PEAK WINDS
TO ABOUT 110 KILOMETRES PER HOUR) OCCURRED IN THE SMALL COMMUNITY OF
BOURGET WHICH IS ABOUT 40 KILOMETRES EAST OF OTTAWA. THIS IS THE
WEAKEST TYPE OF TORNADO ON THE FUJITA SCALE WHICH GOES FROM F-ZERO
(WEAKEST) TO F5 (STRONGEST). THE TORNADO WAS RELATIVELY SHORT-LIVED
WITH A TOTAL LENGTH OF ABOUT 3 KILOMETRES AND A WIDTH OF ABOUT 50
METRES. SOME MINOR ROOF DAMAGE WAS REPORTED WITH THIS EVENT ALONG
WITH A FEW TREES BEING UPROOTED.

EARLIER IN THE AFTERNOON, AT 3:45 PM ON TUESDAY, ANOTHER SEVERE
THUNDERSTORM PRODUCED DAMAGING WINDS IN THE DORNIE AREA NEAR
ALEXANDRIA. THE WINDS WERE ESTIMATED TO BE UP TO AROUND 110
KILOMETRES PER HOUR AND FLATTENED AN OLDER BARN AS WELL AS CAUSING
SOME TREE DAMAGE AND POWER OUTAGES.

ANOTHER INVESTIGATION WAS CONDUCTED IN THE MERRICKVILLE AND
KEMPTVILLE AREA ABOUT 40 KILOMETRES NORTH OF BROCKVILLE. SIGNIFICANT
THUNDERSTORMS MOVED THROUGH THIS AREA BETWEEN 3:00 AND 3:15 PM ON
TUESDAY. SPORADIC TREE DAMAGE WAS NOTED IN THE AREA WITH MOST OF THE
DOWNED TREES FACING THE EAST. A MORE NOTABLE AREA OF DAMAGE WAS SEEN
ABOUT 2 KILOMETRES NORTH OF MERRICKVILLE WITH A NUMBER OF TREES
KNOCKED OVER. NO SIGNIFICANT STRUCTURAL DAMAGE WAS NOTED IN THIS
AREA. THIS EVENT WAS ALSO LINKED TO DAMAGING WINDS WITH PEAK GUSTS TO
 ABOUT 110 KILOMETRES PER HOUR.

ONTARIO HAS AN AVERAGE OF 13 TORNADOES EACH YEAR WITH THE SEASON
RUNNING FROM LATE APRIL UNTIL EARLY OCTOBER.

END/OSPC
