GENERAL WEATHER STATEMENT ENVIRONMENT CANADA. REGIONAL CENTRE TORONTO ONTARIO.
6.14 PM EDT AUGUST 4 1999. TORNADOES AND WIND DAMAGE IN THE HAMILTON-BURLINGTON AREA
BETWEEN 1.00 PM AMD 3.00 PM THIS AFTERNOON A COUPLE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS MOVED THROUGH AREAS NEAR THE WEST END OF LAKE ONTARIO. AROUND 1.10 PM STORM DAMAGE WAS REPORTED IN HAMILTON UP ON THE MOUNTAIN. REPORTS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED OF SHINGLES AND
ALUMINUM SIDING OFF HOUSES AND TREES DOWN. THERE ARE SOME INDICATIONS THAT THIS STORM WAS IN FACT A WEAK TORNADO.
BETWEEN 1.30 AND 2.30 PM A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM THAT WAS DEFINITETLY TORNADIC TRACKED FROM EAST OF CAMBRIDGE SOUTHEASTWARD TO BURLINGTON. IT APPEARS THE TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN IN SEVERAL AREAS ALONG THIS TRACK. INFORMATION TO THIS POINT INDICATES BARN DAMAGE, ROOFS OFF HOUSES AND TREES DOWN IN NORTHERN FLAMBOROUGH. A TRAILER WAS DESTROYED AND POWER LINES DOWNED IN THE BURLINGTON AREA. THE STORM THEN MOVED OUT OVER THE LAKE.
ENVIRONMENT CANADA WILL INVESTIGATE THIS STORM THIS EVENING AND ON THURSDAY.
