Open chit-chat thread - no weather talk :)
'Just creating a thread here for general chit-chat. Doesn't have to be weather related.
Temps here in St. Catharines have risen. It was in the negatives yesterday, I think today is supposed to be around +1, and going up to +5 throughout the week. No snow left on the flat ground anymore. Just some drifts in corners and whatnot. |
Re: Open chit-chat thread
The weather's been dull and dreary in England lately. We had a lot of rain starting about a week before Christmas and leading up to New Year's Eve. Since then, the "tap" seems to have finally shut off, but we still have a lot of cloud. Highs of around 10 C lately and lows only a few degrees lower, so it's been mild and spring-like temperature-wise. It's supposed to get a bit colder later in the week.

Wintry Weather on the Way??? KBUF has some promising signs of real winter weather in long range discussion, mid next week. Could really crank up the lake snow machine.

Forecasts are anywhere from 12-15C for here on Saturday. It's been 5C yesterday and today :)

Re: Open chit-chat thread
Since I posted, it has indeed gotten a lot colder here in England. Highs are only a degree or two above 0 C, with sub-zero nightly lows. I believe later in the week and possibly into next week we could be seeing sub-zero highs. I *vastly* prefer days like today - cold (or at least chilly) but clear and sunny - to the mild, cloudy, misty murkiness we had before. It's a bright, beautiful day out there for a change.
There's talk of snow possible tonight, but as usual in the UK the snow risk is very marginal and it could end up falling as rain instead. It's always a matter of great debate. We'll see! :) |
Re: Open chit-chat thread
According to EC forecast, temp is going to drop back down to around 0C tomorrow. It was up around 10+ today. Rain though.

Re: Open chit-chat thread
Anyone planning on adding any new gear for the upcoming storm season?
I was looking at the GoPro Hero video cameras when they were on sale (but out of stock) around Boxing Day, but money is tight. 'Thought it would be neat to strap on to the front or roof of the car while entering a storm and getting that 'right in your face' perspective. But then again, the last few years the storm seasons have been pretty week in this area. |
Re: Open chit-chat thread
Might as well add this now. Been working on a site for a while now...not done...not really even close. http://www.sowx.ca/
A lot is working...there are a lot of bugs and broken links. EC warning map is made ever 2 minutes with colour coded warnings...lost of other great stuff as well. |
Re: Open chit-chat thread

Re: Open chit-chat thread
Not much to update about the weather here in England lately. We got "remarried" on February 9th so that friends and family here could attend their own ceremony, something we'd been planning to do for a couple years. It snowed that morning but didn't settle, and soon stopped. The rest of the day was damp and cold (using relative terms) with a solidly overcast sky of white cloud. At the party in the evening it started to rain lightly... that continued for the rest of the night, the rest of the following day, and most of the night afterward without stopping (so far as I noticed), amounting to about 35 mm or so. After that, the weather went extremely dry for England -- I think it rained another 8 mm or so a few days later, but nothing measurable since that time. Cloudy too. There were a couple 5-7 day stretches without so much as a peep of sunshine; was nearly beginning to forget what the sun looked like. :P
Thankfully it's brightened up considerably the last couple of days and though it's still a bit chilly (highs around 7 lately), it's definitely a little warmer and feels more like spring. Yesterday there wasn't a cloud in the sky and this morning it's the same. Bright, blue, and happy. Hope it stays this way for a while yet! |
Re: Open chit-chat thread
Absolutely gorgeous day today. Highs of 14 C, just a gentle breeze, wall-to-wall hazy sunshine, flowers blooming. Not a speck of cloud in the sky. People take advantage of days like this in England too, because they're only once in a while -- everyone was outside today. Sadly, the rain is back as of tomorrow with lots of cloud and showers for the next several days according to the forecasts, but at least it'll stay pretty mild (around 10 C or so).

The weather today is best described as *murky*. Damp and cloudy with mist and fog all day long, occasionally spitting a bit of drizzle. Probably the stereotype of what people imagine English weather to always be like. I think highs were around 7 C, but it's supposed to get a bit colder over the weekend and into next week with frosts at night and possible light winter showers. |

Re: Open chit-chat thread - no weather talk :)
So, as some of you know, I'm living in England and planning to return to Ontario by this summer. I was hoping to move in June (in time for the height of thunderstorm season), and had a subletted apartment in Toronto seemingly sewn up with a nice retired lady, but she emailed me a couple days ago to say that she's not leaving the country for three months after all and thus not subletting her apartment. I've been too annoyed to reply to her as yet but I have been busy looking for alternative arrangements the last few days - not much success so far but hopefully we'll work something out. I'm hoping to find a sublet for about 3 or 4 months so that we can find work, then move into a more long-term place of our own. Of course doing this from England is tricky!

Good luck on the move and hopefully we'll have an active season for you to enjoy! :) |
Re: Open chit-chat thread - no weather talk :)
So, I won't be moving to Toronto this summer after all. I was operating under a misunderstanding - I won't go into it in detail, but basically I thought you had to be in Ontario to get into this particular academic program at Humber College. That *used* to be the rule, but it isn't anymore. Knowing that now, it's obviously not worthwhile to move to Toronto - a potentially very costly mistake has been averted. We'll be moving back to Winnipeg instead to save money, though I may be back in Ontario eventually - we will be applying to that program at Humber. But it could be a while and it's not even a sure thing.
That all said, I'm not sure what my presence on this forum will contribute, seeing as how it's about Ontario storms. I suppose I could create a thread in the "Canada" section and update it with comments on Manitoba's storm season from time to time though. |
